COVID-19 Refund Information

Please note this form is not to request additional aid or funding. This form is to request a refund of the Housing COVID-19 Credit posted to your student account. You MUST have a credit balance (money owed to you) on your student account from "Housing COVID-19". 

Please complete the below COVID-19 Refund Request Form only if you are seeking a direct deposit or paper check refund due to the following reasons:

  • You are a graduating senior or
  • You have extenuating circumstances that require you to receive the funds as a refund instead of a credit toward future charges. 

This form is not required to receive the Housing Credit COVID-19 posted to your student account. The credit will reflect on your student account.

Is there a tuition discount if I take all my classes online versus in person?

An online class does not cost less to plan or deliver than a traditional in person campus class. UCCS has been offering some classes in an online format to students for many years. Do I get a discount on tuition if all or most of my classes are taught remotely this Spring?

The blend of in-person, hybrid, remote and online courses that will be offered in Spring 2021 does not diminish the quality and value of a degree from UCCS.

The main accreditation criteria for our courses remain the same whether they are taught in person, online or remotely: our courses must involve regular and substantive instructor interaction with students. With remote and online teaching, faculty and instructors are still able to:

  • Provide regular instruction and interact regularly with their students. 
  • Provide full and substantive assessments and regular feedback on students’ coursework.
  • Be proactive and available in providing information or responding to students’ questions about the content of the course.

UCCS has received recognition for delivering online courses for years in many majors and programs. The faculty who teach in remote, online, or “hyflex” formats are committed to delivering a high-quality learning experience, and oftentimes these types of courses require more time and effort than an in-person course. Faculty across campus continue to incorporate best practices for teaching and learning in various teaching modalities into the design of their courses.

Classes will continue (in a format appropriate to adhere to public health requirements) so no tuition or fee discounts/reductions will be issued.

Am I getting charged all my student fees this Spring if all or most of my classes are taught remotely?

Yes. Regardless of the course delivery format, tuition, mandatory student fees, course/program and instructional fees will be charged at the same rate for the upcoming 2020-2021 academic year. 

Student fees support numerous campus departments and services. Those services will still be available to students, although the details about how they may change to promote the health and safety of campus are still being decided. Some services already existed online prior to COVID-19. Other services may move some elements online for this fall while some will still be available in person. Fees also assist with costs to maintain facilities and debt obligations, as well as salaries and benefits for student and staff employees who support these services. For these reasons, student fees will not be adjusted for Spring 2021.

Do I get a discount on nonresident/out of state tuition, if all my classes are taught online or remote?

No. As a state institution we are bound by the State of Colorado Residency Statutes. 

Tuition classification status (resident vs. non-resident) is governed by state law (Title 23, Article 7, of the Colorado Revised Statutes of 1973, as amended) and by judicial decisions that apply to all public institutions of higher education in Colorado. The university is not free to make exceptions to the rules except as permitted by state law. How did you establish tuition rates?

The CU Board of Regents sets tuition and fees for all CU campuses each spring as part of the regular budget cycle. This year, the board approved a zero percent tuition increase for incoming and returning students. 

Will I get a refund on fees if we must go fully remote again?

There are no plans to adjust or remove fees for the 2020-21 academic year. Student fees did not increase for the upcoming academic year, despite the fact that changes for fall required expansion of infrastructure that supports student activities both online and in person.

Tuition and fees will remain the same regardless of instruction mode. Per the Tuition and Fee Agreement and Disclosure all costs associated with receiving educational services remain even if course modality (online, remote, hybrid, in-person) changes. 

Housing, Parking, or other campus fee for service refunds will be determined at that time.  

Other FAQs

Do I need to wear a mask to receive service in person?  

Yes. Per the Protecting the Pride Pledge, all UCCS community members – students, faculty, staff and visitors – will wear face coverings while on campus, with limited exceptions. Please visit the Return to Campus website for further details.

I have an outstanding balance from the previous term, I can still enroll in Spring 2021classes? 

If you have an outstanding fall 2020 only balance due of $1500 or less, UCCS is temporarily allowing you to enroll for Spring 2021 with the balance outstanding.  

What is the tuition due date for Spring 2021? 

February 3, 2021 at 5pm 

This is also the deadline to enroll in an auto-deduction payment plan in your myUCCS student portal under Student Financial Services (Bursar) > Enroll in Payment Plan 

Why isn’t my financial aid showing on my bill? 

Financial aid funds will start showing on your student bill as of January 11, 2021 if your financial aid process is complete. Check your student account starting on January 12, 2021 to see your remaining balance due (the total bill minus financial aid funding).

If I cannot pay the entire balance due by end of the Spring 2021 term, will it roll into the next term? 

No. Your account will be moved into our in-house collections status and there will a hold on your account preventing future enrollment, transcripts, and diploma.

Are credit card service fees (2.75%) for debit/credit card transactions not being charged due to COVID-19? 

No. This is collected by our payment servicer and the 2.75% is the amount established by our third party credit card/debit card processor, Nelnet Business Solutions, to cover the credit card/debit card transaction fees assessed by credit card companies to UCCS. https://bursar.uccs.edu/payments/faq-credit-card-service-fee

I have cash/certified funds hold on my account, how can I pay without additional fees? 

You can mail a cashier check or money order to UCCS directly at 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. There is no fee and we will still accept certified funds. 

If I am transferring from another institution, do I need to reapply for College Opportunity Fund (COF)? 

No. You simply need to login to your myUCCS student portal and authorize COF at UCCS. See our step-by-step guide for information on to how to apply and authorize COF.

I get an error messaging when authorizing my College Opportunity Fund (COF), who should I contact? 

There are three main causes for this error:

  1. You have not applied for COF with the State of Colorado. To apply please visit https://cof.college-assist.org/
  2. Mismatch of data between UCCS and COF (College Assist), including: SSN, name, birthdate
  3. Other issues (rare)

To correct any of these issues if you've already applied for COF, check that your SSN, name, and birthdate are all correct in your COF (College Assist) account at https://cof.college-assist.org/.

You can also contact the Office of the Registrar (Email: registrar@uccs.edu, Phone: 719-255-3361, Main Hall 108) and check that your SSN, name, and birthdate are all correct with UCCS. After making the necessary corrections, please wait for 2-3 business days to check your myUCCS portal to authorize COF.

A credit will be applied to your student financial account if you apply for the College Opportunity Fund (COF) and authorize UCCS to use your COF. Until about two weeks before the semester ends, you can apply and authorize COF online. NOTE: Classes added after Census date are not eligible for COF.

How to apply online:

  1. Go to the College Opportunity Fund website at https://cof.college-assist.org.
  2. Apply for the COF stipend.
  3. Wait 3-5 days; then go to the myUCCS Student Portal to authorize (see below).

How to authorize online:

  1. Go to COF Authorization/Review, then do the following:
    • Click on the link Update Authorization.
    • Select one of the two options for Authorization or Refused Authorization.

Refunds and credits: As information becomes available, it will be posted at covid19.uccs.edu/refunds. Below is a summary of the ones with information 

Parking: Students will receive credits posted to their student account for the second half of the spring semester. Faculty and staff payroll deductions are suspended until further notice. Employees who paid for a semester or annual permit in full will receive refunds for the unused portion, but expect additional time for processing.

Housing: Impacted students will receive an email with detailed information March 27. Credits will be posted to student accounts by the end of day on Monday, March 30.

Late Fines and Service Charges: Due to the COVID-19 situation UCCS will not assess monthly service charges or late fines on spring 2020 past due balances for the April 5, 2020 and May 5, 2020 due dates.

Payment Plans: If you are enrolled in a spring 2020 payment plan and need the plan terminated, please email us at bursar@uccs.edu with your request.
